Der Fremde
Algiers, 1938. Meursault, a quiet, unassuming clerk in his early thirties, attends his mother's funeral without showing any visible emotion. The next day, he begins an affair with his former colleague Marie and returns to his usual everyday life. However, this is soon disrupted by his neighbour Raymond, who draws Meursault into his shady dealings – until a fateful event occurs on a scorching hot day at the beach.
Told in beguiling black-and-white images and carried by an exquisite ensemble cast including Benjamin Voisin, Rebecca Marder and Pierre Lottin, the film marks an artistic high point in Ozon's multi-layered oeuvre. STRANGER celebrated its acclaimed world premiere in competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.
