Der Fluch
The film takes us to a Galician shtetl in the 19th century and tells the parable-like story of the fate of Jehuda Nachmann, a horse dealer who strays from the right path, and his catharsis. Nachmann does not take the Jewish commandments very seriously, thereby incurring the wrath of the father of the woman who took her own life because of his transgressions. He is cursed, and neither the passage of time nor a change of surroundings can stop the misfortune that now haunts him and his descendants. A film about guilt and the search for forgiveness – and also an extremely authentic picture of the shtetl. The production history is also interesting: the financing is likely to be based on crowdfunding, initiated by the director himself.
