Der Fall Jägerstätter
A memorial about a chapter of the recent past, far removed from any reappraisal in 1971. Not far from Braunau am Inn lives a Bible-believing farmer who wants nothing to do with serving the Führer and the Fatherland. Time and again, he has to explain himself and his convictions. When he cannot avoid being drafted, he explains his refusal to do military service to the draft board: a devout Christian cannot be a National Socialist. Attempts are made from all sides to change his mind. An agonizing gauntlet run through the courts begins, culminating in an almost abrupt death sentence. Corti is not content with an accurate reconstruction; he repeatedly weaves in documentary footage of conversations with Jägerstätter's former acquaintances. To start with: Corti talks about Jägerstätter in the ZEIT IM BILD of August 9, 1993.
