Deep Sea

Under the sea, this delightful Chinese animated adventure looks a bit as if characters and locations from Studio Ghibli have been submerged in it. Little Shenxiu finds herself in the middle of this world after a storm washes her off a cruise ship. Together with Nanhe, the cook of a deep-sea restaurant, she soon searches for the mythical creature Hyjinx, who is supposed to help her find her mother, who has been in hiding since her parents separated. Surrounded by impressionistic watercolour aesthetics, Deep Sea, especially in the 3D version, is one of the most visually overwhelming films in a long time.
