Death in Venice

FromLuchino Visconti

WithMarisa Berenson, Dirk Bogarde, Romolo Valli, Mark Burns, Nora Ricci

Year1971

Duration130min.

The composer Gustav von Aschenbach is in a crisis and travels to Venice to regain inspiration. There he observes the beautiful Tadzio in a hotel. Completely mesmerised by his beauty, he falls in love with him. Caught up in daydreams and his infatuation, Gustav loses himself more and more.

Luchino Visconti's film is probably the most important adaptation of a Thomas Mann novel. Successful modifications to the material and the use of Gustav Mahler's compositions make this literary adaptation so special.
