Das wandelnde Schloss – 20th Anniversary

FromHayao Miyazaki

Year2004

Duration119min.

One of the most beautiful films by Oscar-winner Hayao Miyazaki (Chihiro's Journey, The Boy and the Heron) is returning to cinemas for its 20th birthday.

The love story between a magician and an 18-year-old girl who is transformed into an old woman is a marvellous feast for the imagination.

Sophie, a milliner in her deceased father's shop, meets the magician Howl by chance, falls in love with him and is then cursed by a jealous witch, who turns her into an old woman. She secretly becomes a cleaning lady in the wizard's mysterious castle in order to be closer to Howl.

The fairytale story, once again enlivened by wondrous fantasy creatures, is based on the novel ‘Sophie in the Wizard's Castle’ (OT: ‘Howl's Moving Castle’) by British author Diana Wynne Jones, which was published in Japan in 1997. The story was once again brought to the screen by Miyazaki's Ghibli studio with breathtaking ideas.
