Das Teufelsauge / Abenteuer eines Journalisten
Piel directs a breakneck chase for the Italian-German production company Vay & Hubert: Attaché François is accused of stealing the Devil's Eye, one of the world's most precious diamonds, and murdering a servant. He is forced to flee and vows not to return until he has tracked down the real thieves. With its risky stunts, DAS TEUFELSAUGE even causes a stir in the USA – yet the film marks the last collaboration between Piel and Trautmann before the outbreak of the First World War. The latter shoots his own sensational film, ABENTEUER EINES JOURNALISTEN, which was long attributed to Piel. The highlight is a spectacular chase scene featuring the Wuppertal suspension railway!
