Das Mädchen aus der Streichholzfabrik
Day after day, Iris stands in a noisy factory hall. Her only job: to make sure that the packets of matchboxes passing by on a conveyor belt are labeled correctly. At home, she must deliver her meager wages to her mother and stepfather. When Iris spends her money on a pretty dress one time, she is beaten. No one pays attention to her when she goes out alone, no one asks her to dance. And the well-to-do man who does approach her promptly abandons her with a child. Abandoned by her parents, left to her own devices by her Prince Charming with a check for the abortion, she goes to the pharmacy and buys a packet of rat poison....
The drama of a violated creature turns into a murderous grotesque, the hopelessness gives birth to the blackest humor.
