‘Colonialism’, ‘restitution’, ‘reparation’ - we all know these words. DAS LEERE GRAB shows what they mean for those affected by them: The fact that tens of thousands of human remains from former colonies are still stored in German museums is a concrete consequence of the fact that German colonial crimes have been dealt with far too little. For the descendants, it means deep pain and the robbery of their own history. With a respectful eye, the directors accompany two families from Tanzania who are fighting for restitution, as well as activists in Berlin who are gradually making their voices heard.
