THE WHISPERING OF THE FIELDS tells the story of Jagna, a young woman who is determined to make her own way in a Polish village in the late 19th century. This place is a centre of gossip and constant quarrels. The village community is held together only by national pride, adherence to colourful traditions and deeply rooted patriarchal structures. When Jagna finds herself caught between the contradictory wishes of the village's richest farmer, his eldest son and other influential men in the community, her protest triggers a tragic conflict in the village community.
Using the same technique as in the unforgettable film LOVING VINCENT, the director couple Welchman bring Wladyslaw Stanislaw Reymont's Nobel Prize-winning novel to the big screen, creating an astonishing blend of cinema, painting and animation. The film THE WHISPERING OF FIELDS was a Polish candidate for the 2024 Oscars and the lead actress, Kamila Urzedowska, was honoured as a ‘European Shooting Star’ at the Berlinale 2024.
