Muse or music - that is the question facing the penniless but extremely talented Franz Schubert when his friends want to set him up with a young woman. The chosen one does indeed harbour deep feelings for him, but through a chain of unfortunate circumstances she ends up with someone else ... Although numerous elements from the SISSI trilogy are also used here and Marischka basically remains true to himself, small details reveal a delight in experimentation and a desire to break away from overly rigid conventions.
