Człowiek z marmuru (MAN OF MARBLE)
Film student Agnieszka is researching the fate of the once-celebrated "Hero of Labor," Mateusz Birkut, for her graduation project. She stumbles upon his discarded marble statue in a cellar. Her investigation leads her through archives and past many closed doors, but it uncovers, layer by layer, how propaganda creates, uses, and discards people. MAN OF MARBLE intertwines investigative cinema with a reflection on historiography. The reconstruction of the hero myth becomes a precise analysis of the system that produced it. Formally bold, politically explosive, and carried by Krystyna Janda's furious presence, the film, for whose realization Wajda had to fight for 13 years, remains a key work of Polish cinema—and far beyond.
