Cría Cuervos
"Breed ravens and they will peck your eyes out" is a Spanish proverb that refers to the ingratitude of children and which Saura takes as the inspiration for this film, which marks a turning point. Shot while Franco was still alive but released at the beginning of the democratic transition, CRÍA CUERVOS is about a girl who has lost both her parents, spends her summer vacation with her sisters at an aunt's house and indulges in her dreams and traumas in the confines of the big house. The loss of childhood innocence and the disintegration of an upper middle-class family represent the state of ossified Spanish society - until a new beginning is signaled at the end, to the sound of the catchy tune "Porque te vas". Awarded the Grand Prix in Cannes - a masterpiece.
