US scientists travel to the Amazon jungle, where they suspect there is a creature that is half fish, half human, the kind of creature usually only found in myths, such as the sea monk. And indeed, they find a gill man—who defends his habitat against the intruders with all necessary force. But then there is the enchanting Kay, who falls for the creature from another era... La Belle et la Bête find themselves in the Heart of Darkness—only in the cinema of the great genre philosopher Jack Arnold! Probably the most famous of all 3D films of the early 1950s, its protagonist became an icon of classic horror cinema and notably inspired Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water (2017), among others. Even though the film has been shown repeatedly on television, here you can finally enjoy watching the gill man stretch his webbed hands out to the audience! (Olaf Möller)
