This film is about our home, the stars. The trillions of cells that we humans – like all good animals – carry around with us every day contain traces of stardust. Three suns must explode before hydrogen and helium clouds can form the matter that makes up our Earth and the life on it. My science fiction films from the 1970s already dealt with this theme. But the older I get, the more I am interested in science. More than in science fiction. Reality is an unsurpassed storyteller. And the seat of all reality is the universe. Cosmic Miniatures is my latest feature-length film. I didn't just submit any film to the Rotterdam Festival, but made it specifically for January 2024 and this festival. Following in the footsteps of my friend Khavn De La Cruz. The film is dedicated to my teacher and companion Edgar Reitz and Leslie Adelson of Cornell University in Ithaca, USA, who coined the title Cosmic Miniatures in their book. (Alexander Kluge)
