Commotion
A musical set in the Georgian town of Telavi. Gogoberidze creates a fairy-tale setting, overflowing with elements of Georgian folk culture—a town of joy, shaped by culinary traditions and cooking competitions. When Mako, a famous theater actress, returns to her birthplace to settle down, a cultural clash ensues: restaurant or museum? Mako opens an art gallery in one of the local eateries, inciting the anger of restaurateurs but winning the hearts of the townspeople.
Gogoberidze writes in her autobiography: "I remember the filming of this movie as an endless celebration, a festival of joy and bliss. 'In close-up, life is a tragedy,' Charlie Chaplin once said, 'but in long shot, it’s a comedy.' I didn’t know this quote from the great comedian at the time, but we shot *Commotion* almost entirely in long shot." (Gaby Babić/Barbara Wurm)
