Code of Fear
In 2013, journalist and LGBTQ+ activist Eric Lembembe was brutally murdered in Cameroon - tortured and beaten to death because he was gay. Shocked by this crime, filmmaker Appolain Siewe, who lives in France, travels to his home country to investigate the situation of queer people. It soon becomes clear that Lembembe was not an isolated case. Homophobia is deeply rooted in Cameroonian society. The film examines the causes - and sheds light on colonial, political and religious backgrounds. A moving essay about fear, resistance and the fight for visibility and dignity.
