Cîran (Neigbours)
A six-year-old Kurdish boy grows up in a small village on the Syrian-Turkish border and witnesses how the spreading nationalism in the early 1980s gradually destroys his little world. At school, he is forced to speak Arabic, his Jewish neighbors suddenly become mortal enemies, and soldiers on both sides of the border draw dangerously close. The film delicately balances playfulness and seriousness, telling the story of a childhood that, despite the dictatorship and painful drama, still finds moments of joy.
