Christine saw the light of day in 1957 – on an assembly line in Detroit. Less than 20 years later, her once flawless form (Christine is a sleek Plymouth Fury) seems hopelessly outdated – until the passion of a young man awakens her monstrous fetish powers. Christine's new life is that of a ghost. No matter how hard we try to destroy her, she keeps coming back to haunt us: the violent return of an icon of US industry in the age of deindustrialisation. Anyone who doesn't believe that cars are endowed with charisma and personality can be convinced otherwise in Christine. In the best horror film tradition, genre dialectician Carpenter aims to make us fear evil as much as we pity it. (N.P.) As a prelude: Carpenter's reinterpretation of the music video, in which he appears with the original car!
