In the presence of Sybille Bauer-Zierfuß
For her Carte Blanche, Sybille Bauer-Zierfuß has selected three works that explore the theme of family, particularly the father-daughter relationship.
US avant-garde filmmaker and queer cinema pioneer Su Friedrich reflects on childhood experiences in SINK OR SWIM, examining how these shaped a girl’s perspective on fatherhood and family dynamics. Sensuous black-and-white photographs capture the extraordinary and mundane aspects of daily life, complementing the narrative text.
Following this, two remarkable films by Antoinette Zwirchmayr delve into her family history: one focusing on her grandfather, once Salzburg’s “most notorious” pimp (Der Zuhälter und seine Trophäen), and the other exploring the life of her father, a bank robber in his youth and later a gemstone mine owner (Josef – Täterprofil meines Vaters).
