CALLAS - PARIS, 1958: Maria Callas' historic performance can now be seen for the first time in colour, in Dolby Sound and fully restored exclusively on the big screen. It was to be an unforgettable evening. Maria Callas, the diva par excellence and the face of opera in the 20th century, made her debut in Paris with this legendary, once-in-a-lifetime performance on 19 December 1958 at the magnificent Paris Opéra. It was a major social event attended by "Le Tout Paris" (including French President Coty, Jean Cocteau, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Charlie Chaplin, Brigitte Bardot and many others). Callas took to the famous stage in her most elegant designer attire, wearing a million dollars' worth of jewellery. The repertoire of this performance shows Callas at her best, both vocally and as an operatic actress. Visual elements were just as important in her art as the vocal dimensions. Carefully restored from the recently rediscovered original 16mm reels and a newly discovered sound source from Maria Callas' private archive, this is a unique opportunity to experience this historic performance as never before on the big screen.
