15-year-old Benedetta lives with her parents and younger siblings in the southern Italian province. Because of her overweight, she is considered an outsider and is often bullied. When a fair pitches its tents on the family's doorstep, she meets the showman Amanda, who lives a self-determined life and defies gender norms. Amanda's sovereignty immediately fascinates Benedetta.
