Cabaret Total
An exhausted soldier returns from reserve duty. He is not a particularly successful actor, teaches theatre at a school and performs cabaret shows in the evenings at the community centre. Family and professional disaster seems inevitable, but we are not just anywhere, because that doesn't exist in Israel, but in Yeroham, where everyone knows everyone else and has an opinion on everything. Art and freedom of expression, corruption and politics, traumatic memories of war and small-town life complement each other with the negative effects of social media. Roy Assaf shines so brightly in the lead role that critics wrote that Fellini's film 8 1/2 had been reborn in southern Israel. The light and shadows of the desert have a unique effect. The cinematography was awarded first prize by the Film Academy, the Israeli Oscars, in 2025.
