Buena Vista Social Club
At the invitation of his friend Ry Cooder, who had already composed the music for PARIS, TEXAS, Wenders travelled to Havana with a small film crew to accompany the recording of Ibrahim Ferrer's new solo album. This opens up the unknown cosmos of son music for the director, into which he is suddenly sucked: ‘I thought I was making a documentary film, but we were witnessing a fairy tale that nobody could have imagined.’ He accompanies the musicians of the BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB on their journey from oblivion to world fame: a declaration of love for music and a very special attitude to life that has since been transmitted to his viewers time and time again.
