On a rainy night, the desperate So-young drops off her newborn baby in the baby hatch of a church. Dong-soo, who works there, and his buddy Sang-hyun sense a business opportunity: they secretly take the baby and place him with a family for good money. But suddenly the young mother is at the door again - to get her son back. In their predicament, the two crooks are able to convince So-young to accompany them on their search for an adoptive family. Together they embark on a turbulent road trip through South Korea - unaware that the police are already hot on their heels.
Hiokazu Kore-eda's ("Shoplifters") film is populated by friendly people whose actions often don't seem so friendly. The Japanese master director perfectly stages "Parasite" star Kang-ho Song and delivers a beautiful road movie about family and belonging.
