Bob Roberts
Our contribution to the overseas election campaign in the early 1990s was a successful, hilarious satire in the guise of a mockumentary. It still is - but looking back, Tim Robbins' directorial debut turns out to be downright visionary. You could say that reality has caught up since then, and the analogies to today are obvious! The title character Bob Roberts is a successful country singer who appeals to people with his reactionary views and pithy performances and now feels called to politics. He knows how to hit out at his opponents in a media-effective manner and how to make headlines. His election campaign really takes off when he almost becomes the victim of an assassination attempt. Entering Congress: child's play, as long as everyone plays along diligently. (Florian Widegger)
