Birdman

Riggan Thomson's (Michael Keaton) career is virtually over. He used to play the iconic superhero Birdman, but today he is one of the stars of a bygone era. In his desperation, he tries to put on a Broadway play to prove to himself and everyone else that he is not yet past his prime. As the premiere approaches, Riggan's lead actor drops out due to an accident. The director quickly finds a replacement in Mike Shiner (Edward Norton). He may be an unpredictable character, but he guarantees high ticket sales and rave reviews. However, it's not just his unpredictable ego that stands in the way of the aging actor's comeback attempt.

With this entertaining theater satire and a great ensemble cast, filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu has created an elegant, playful, and dark comedy that thrilled critics and audiences alike at the last Venice Film Festival. In his previous films, such as AMORES PERROS, BABEL, 21 GRAMS, and most recently BIUTIFUL (with Javier Bardem), the Mexican director has demonstrated his talent for staging dramas in a magnificent and moving way. He now proves that he also masters the comedy genre in this equally funny and profound treatise on the unshakeable vanities of showbiz.
