While the lives and experiences of male migrant workers are barely covered by the media, the situation is even worse for women. Edith Marcello's work is an absolute exception in this respect, as epitomised by these two documentary films she made for Hessischer Rundfunk. In them, she shows harrowing conditions and untenable living and working conditions, in which assaults are the order of the day, and allows those affected to have their say. She also deals with the question of solidarity - especially in the second film, which places the question of exploitation and oppression in a larger context that affects all workers, regardless of their origin, in an extremely class-conscious way.
