Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) have only just moved into their new mansion when they are killed in a car accident. They find themselves back in their house as ghosts. Soon a wealthy New York family - consisting of Charles (Jeffrey Jones), Delia (Catherine O'Hara) and daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) - move in with them. They plan to change things, which the ghosts don't like at all. So the ghosts do everything they can to drive the intruders out again...
