Basquiat
The Rise and Fall of Jean-Michel Basquiat – brilliant agitator of the New York art scene in the 1980s, member of the famous Club 27. Fellow painter Julian Schnabel traces ten years in the life of the young rebel who wanted to be a star but never a darling – from his time on the streets as a graffiti artist and gallery hack, to his encounter of a different kind with Andy Warhol (played affectionately and whimsically by David Bowie), to his grand arrival in the galleries of the world and a self-obsessed art scene. A picture of a life full of life that ends tragically when Warhol dies, but also a caricature of a business full of hype and hysteria with many prominent celebrity actors.
