Barefoot in the Park
Part of the Special Series IN MEMORIAM ROBERT REDFORD
Corie Bratter: My divorce! When do I get my divorce!
Paul Bratter: How should I know? The marriage license hasn’t even come in yet!
Paul Bratter (Robert Redford), a conservative young lawyer, marries the lively Corie (Jane Fonda). Together they move into a tiny apartment—complete with a leaky heater and eccentric neighbors. What begins as a romantic fresh start quickly turns into a comic trial of strength between two opposing temperaments.
Redford plays Paul with a blend of stiff politeness and growing despair, which increasingly erupts into comical loss of control. While Jane Fonda as Corie embraces the chaos, he tries to impose order—failing in the most charming way. The comedy arises not from punchlines, but from timing and the quiet tragedy of a man who must learn… to walk barefoot.
A thoroughly entertaining comedy delight about young marriage.
