Austerlitz
In AUSTERLITZ, Loznitsa observes visitors to a former concentration camp as they make their way through the site, distracted by audio guides, selfies and weary wandering. Without commentary and solely through the austerity of its visual composition, the film reveals how places of horror become backdrops to everyday life. Between seriousness and casual curiosity, an oppressive portrait of modern memory culture emerges, one that threatens to evaporate in the ritual of tourism.
