The destitute lute player falls in love with the daughter of a rich Turkish merchant and wants to marry her, for which his father unsurprisingly has no sympathy. In order to become rich, he sets off on a long journey during which he has to survive countless adventures and return home in time for day 1,001 ... Parajanov's last film, dedicated to Andrei Tarkovsky, who had died two years earlier, and inspired by an ancient Georgian legend, is once again full of symbolic details and revels in beautiful images that bring a long lost world back to life. In the final shot, the past and present are intertwined: a white dove sits on a film camera. (red)
