Asadur + Unseen Photos of Anfal
ASADUR
In Search of Lost Identity is a documentary that sheds light on the deep trauma suffered by Armenian children during the Armenian genocide. It focuses on Asadur, who grew up in Malatya and embarks on a belated search for his long-suppressed Armenian identity.
UNSEEN PHOTOS OF ANFAL
The film tells the story of Kurdish photographer Haji Kak Awla, who lived in areas of Iraqi Kurdistan that witnessed the Anfal genocide from 1986 to 1989, which claimed the lives of between 50,000 and 180,000 Kurds. Over the years, he took numerous portrait photos of the locals before they were murdered. Many years later, these previously unpublished photos accidentally fell into the hands of a man named Hemin, who decided to search for the relatives of the people depicted. Each photo tells a touching story. For example, an old man and an old woman lost their five children in 1988 and no longer had any pictures of them. Thirty years later, they can now see pictures of their five children.
