art+film+vienna: Architekturen

FromDiverse

Year2025

Duration0min.

Architecture directly shapes how we live together — physically and socially. This makes the study of vanished and fictional architectures all the more revealing.
The Hall explores the societal echoes of a People’s Commune Assembly Hall, a symbol of radical collectivization in China between the 1950s and 1980s. Inspired by Jakob Johann von Uexküll, founder of biosemiotics, and the fantastic works of Ursula K. Le Guin, Umwelt/4470 immerses viewers in a hybrid film world of architecture, biology, and interspecies symbiosis. In stark contrast, A Weak & Panicked Animal examines the clash between the overwhelming power of nature and the human-built environment.
We dreamed in places that no longer exist and If the circumstances allow it both ask how spatial context influences creative practice.

The works presented in this program emerged from the module Of Other Practices at the Institute for Visual Culture, Vienna University of Technology, reimagining failed architectures and opening up critical questions for the discipline.
