Arizona Dream
Axel leaves New York behind and finds himself stranded in the Arizona desert. There, he's supposed to take over his uncle's business selling used Cadillacs, but soon meets a widow and her stepdaughter, both of whom long to escape their lives just as much as he does… Kusturica presents America as a skewed fairy tale from a European perspective: melancholic, excessive, and permeated with surreal ideas. Underpinned by Goran Bregović's ethereal score, reality and fantasy blur. Peppered with countless references to classic Hollywood films, ARIZONA DREAM explores the American way of life – a poetic road trip through lost illusions – a film about the shattering of dreams that itself never ceases to dream.
