The small fishing village of Campione d’Italia – the tiny Italian enclave on Lake Lugano – generated immense wealth for a hundred years from a monumental casino. Hardly a resident who did not benefit from it economically or socially. But the bankruptcy of this colossus plunged Campione into an existential crisis.
In their sensitive documentary, directors Cirigliano and von Bredow tell the story of a village that refuses to give up. At the center stands the oversized building designed by star architect Mario Botta – a monument embodying both past dreams and future possibilities.
