Apenas el sol (Nothing But The Sun)
Since being forcibly expelled from his original habitat in the Chaco region in the heart of Paraguay, Mateo Sobode Chiqueño has been collecting stories, songs and testimonies of his people, the Ayoreo, with an old cassette recorder. He wants to document the legacy of a vanishing culture and tirelessly travels to the desolate settlements in this region. Like him, the last survivors were born in the jungle: free, nomadic and without contact to civilisation. Until religious missionaries forced them to leave their homeland. Collecting these testimonies awakens a long-cherished desire in Mateo: he wants to return to his original territory one last time.
Paraguayan director Arami Ullón (EL TIEMPO NUBLADO), who lives in Switzerland, came across the fate of these people in her home country by chance in a newspaper article. Shocked by this fact, she made contact with the Ayoreo and began filming. The result is a stirring and humanistic documentary film that raises questions about identity and belonging and takes a hard look at Paraguay's post-colonial history.
