Anni facili (Einfache Jahre)

FromLuigi Zampa

WithNino Taranto, Alda Mangini, Gino Buzzanca, Clelia Matania

Year1953

Duration109min.

Luigi Zampa’s famous continuation of *Anni difficili* follows another "little man" from Sicily through the turmoil of the post-war period. A destitute provincial schoolteacher (Nino Taranto) moves to Rome at the urging of his ambitious wife. As a staunch anti-fascist, he hopes to find support from his old friends, who now occupy influential positions. Instead, he ends up even poorer in the capital, soon sinking into the quagmire of ministerial corruption. After *Anni difficili* caused a stir, *Anni facili* became a veritable battleground for censorship: production only began after three script revisions, and the censor labeled the “satire on neo-fascists” as “deliberately scandalous and cruelly self-destructive.” Rodolfo Graziani, Mussolini’s "Marshal of Italy," even attempted to sue the film. When it was finally released, the sharp satire was celebrated as a “victory for anti-fascism and Italian cinema.” (Christoph Huber)
