Los Angeles in the present day: Henry (Adam Driver) is a stand-up comedian with a keen sense of humour. Ann (Marion Cotillard), an internationally renowned singer. Together, in the limelight, they are a glamorous and successful couple. The birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious little girl with an extraordinary destiny, will turn their lives upside down.
‘This is the first time that the French director provocateur has filmed in English with Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard - but very little is spoken in ‘Annette’ anyway, instead almost every word is sung - to lyrics by the legendary avant-garde rock band Sparks. It's about love, or rather the somewhat more extreme French version of amour fou - plus success, power, tabloid media, #metoo and much more.
