Anna Felici
Rome, 1974. Guido, an aspiring avant-garde artist, feels trapped in his bourgeois and overbearing family. His wife Serena, deeply in love with him, struggles to connect with the world of art. Their children, ten-year-old Dario and five-year-old Paolo, unwillingly witness the complex and passionate relationship between their parents. Amid art happenings, eccentricities, Super 8 films, languid vacations, and confessions, Guido’s family searches for their path to happiness.
Director Daniele Luchetti on his film:
"After My Brother Is an Only Child (Mio Fratello è Figlio Unico) and La Nostra Vita, I find myself making a third film about family. In the first, I told the story of someone else’s family. In the second, I told the story of my surroundings. Only now, with this third story, do I realize that I’ve been edging closer and closer to the need to tell my own story. What is true, and what is fictional? The facts are largely the product of my imagination, though the emotions are absolutely real. Strangely enough, it was necessary to invent a series of lies to arrive at what, in all humility, I would define as the truth. It was a constant challenge to feel both affection and aversion for my characters—who, though fictional, were inspired by my parents."
