ANG PANAHON NG HALIMAW (SEASON OF THE DEVIL)
In the 1970s, President Marcos brutally rules the Philippines under martial law. In this film, he is easily recognizable in the fictional character of the demonic Narciso. Militias following Narciso's orders oppress the country, including the remote village where the doctor Lorena wants to set up a clinic for the poor. Lorena disappears. Her husband, the poet Hugo, does everything he can to find her. Not an atypical premise for director Lav Diaz, but he dares to use a special trick here: the dialog consists of 30 self-written songs performed in eerie a cappella singing.
