Anatomie eines Falls

For almost two years, Sandra, a German writer, her French husband Samuel, and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have lived in seclusion in a small town in the French Alps. On a bright day, Samuel is found dead in the snow at the foot of their chalet. Was it murder? Suicide? Or just a tragic accident after all? Samuel's sudden death seems suspicious to the police, and Sandra becomes the prime suspect. A grueling circumstantial trial ensues, gradually dissecting in detail not only the circumstances of Samuel's death, but Sandra and Samuel's lively relationship.

Justine Triet's sophisticated film tells the story of a German writer who must defend herself in a French court against accusations that she pushed her husband to his death from the balcony of a chalet. In the struggle to find out what really happened, the film develops into a gripping relationship drama. The contradictions in the private are juxtaposed with the harsh reality of the justice system.
