Ana Rosa

With her family members as witnesses, Catalina Villar draws the portrait of her grandmother, Ana Rosa, whose story of suffering was covered in silence for decades. The film becomes a research about the abusive use of lobotomies on women in Colombia in the 50s. Lobotomy, a cruel method, was used mainly by men to deprive women of their self-confidence and to better integrate them into patriarchal structures as a result. Obedient. Submissive. Domestic. A journey into a society in a time when feminism was not even a foreign word.
