Amorosa
Amidst bustling streets during the Venice Carnival, renowned Swedish author Agnes von Krusenstjerna (Stina Ekblad) and her husband David Sprengel (Erland Josephson) make their way to a psychiatric clinic. In flashbacks, Mai Zetterling's last directorial work tells the story of a young woman who dreams of freeing herself from all social constraints through her literary work. Agnes von Krusenstjerna's life was marked by scandal, as her novels dealt with topics that violated all conventions: her own madness, the plea for sexual freedom, male and female homosexuality, incest. Zetterling's farewell to cinema, a dark, painful, disillusioned film: "Great love? A phantom that everyone talks about, but which few have seen." (E.S.)
