AMANDLA! A REVOLUTION IN FOUR-PART HARMONY
In the form of an impressively vivid chronology, this film tells the story of resistance to the apartheid regime in South Africa through music: during the most violent phases of oppression, the black population was forbidden to sing out loud, record songs or own music recordings, and music and singing became a significant part of the mass protests. In AMANDLA! - the title means strength, power in Zulu and Xhosa and was an important slogan - features famous artists such as Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba as well as the Freedom Songs of the Many.
