Ramblings through Berlin. The documentary short film Am Rand (On the Edge), created as part of a seminar by Peter Nestler at the DFFB, was shot at the end of 1990 along the former Berlin Wall strip and captures places in transition – and a city outskirts in the middle of the city. Thirty-three years later, Arslan, once again behind the camera, revisits the same areas for Am Rand Revisited, showing what has become of the former wastelands and documenting the city's drastic transformation. Arslan's DFFB graduation film Im Sommer (Die sichtbare Welt) is also set in Berlin: Paul doesn't want to work, lives for the moment and drifts through the city, meeting acquaintances, listening to music and reading. Formal ambition meets unspectacular everyday life, the efforts of doing nothing meet the light of summer. (B.K.)
