All That Heavens Allows

In his heart-wrenching masterpiece, legendary director Douglas Sirk tells the story of a budding romance between wealthy widow Cary (Jane Wyman) and her attractive, much younger gardener Ron (gay icon Rock Hudson). A veritable scandal in small-town America in the 1950s! And so Cary soon faces the decision of whether to follow her heart – despite social disapproval – or to bow to the moral expectations of those around her.

ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS is pure camp and a deeply moving critique of social conventions and bourgeois conformity in the mid-20th century; a highlight of expressionist Hollywood melodrama and, not least, a classic that is still celebrated by the queer community today.
