A Thousand Cuts

This gripping film tells the story of Maria Ressa, journalist and co-founder of the online news site "Rappler" in the Philippines, and how she pursues investigative journalism that fights for truth and democracy and against disinformation campaigns on social media in her country.

When President Rodrigo Duterte took office, a murderous campaign began in the Philippines. Since 2016, thousands of drug addicts and bystanders have been murdered by death squads. The film accompanies Nobel Peace Prize-winning journalist Maria Ressa and the journalists of her online magazine "Rappler" in their work. Together, they uncover the background to Duterte's "war on drugs". The documentary also provides an insight into Maria Ressa's fight for press freedom and democracy.
