A Road Not Taken
In 1979, US President Jimmy Carter installed a solar panel system on the roof of the White House in a visionary move in favour of a more economical use of fossil fuels. His successor Reagan had the panels removed again - in a radical departure from Carter's energy programme. In a roundabout way, the solar panels ended up at an environmental college in the north-east of the USA. Thirty years later, Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller set off with the two solar panels in their luggage on a journey along their history, on a path that was never travelled.
